Worldwide recession, economic meltdown, that’s just not enough to stop Resident Evil fans from grabbing the latest title of the series. From their headquarters in Osaka, Japan, Capcom announced today the initial world-wide shipment of Resident Evil 5 has surpassed more than 4 million units, making RE5 the biggest launch for any of the Resident Evil games to date. “With RE5, this now brings the tally of Resident Evil games worldwide to over 40 million units since the series debuted in March of 1996!”

Adding the additional 2 million units of Street Fighter 4 that were shipped during February, Capcom seems to be doing pretty well for themselves in 2009.
