Imagine working many hours on your Little Big Planet level, and when you have finished and shared it with the world, it's removed and deleted from the LBP servers, with no warning or explanation. You may now add, having your level banned and deleted because of “alleged” copyright infringements, as the latest issue many LBP players are facing.
From Joystiq.com
“Affected parties have noticed that the moderations have erased levels which mention (to varying degrees) copyrighted IPs. For instance, that remarkable God of War level that everyone probably played during beta? It is no more. The gaggle of Super Mario Bros. reimaginings? Yeah, those are gone too. Our personal favorite -- a level titled "Failure to Launch" was deleted, supposedly for using the title of a 2006 McConnaughey-infused romantic comedy.”
“Moderators of the engulfed LBP forums have promised to implement a stronger feedback system to explain why levels are disappearing -- though their unwavering stance on copyrighted content has officially been displayed. Our lesson has certainly been learned -- we'll be keeping our rom-com-based creations to ourselves from now on.”
So how did all of this come about? (Click Here to visit the LBP Forum thread that started it all.) For now, if you are creating any new levels or thinking of publishing your creation, here is a list of things to consider.
First, here's the Little Big Planet EULA:
You agree that you will not create, transfer, share, send, submit or upload any User Generated Content that:
(a) is protected by copyright, patent, trademark or trade secret or otherwise subject to third-party proprietary rights, including but not limited to rights of privacy and publicity (unless you are or have permission from the rightful owner);
(b) contains fraudulent statements or misrepresentations that could damage SCE or any third party;
(c) contains any statements or materials that disparage, ridicule or scorn SCE or any third party;
(d) is obscene, defamatory, threatening, harassing, predatory, pornographic, hateful, racially or ethnically offensive, or encourages conduct that would violate any law or is otherwise inappropriate;
(e) is an advertisement or solicitation of business;
(f) is an impersonation of another person; or
(g) violates any of the rules of Online Conduct, other terms of this Agreement, terms of the PSN Terms of Service and Usage Agreement or any other terms related to this game
Other things to consider before publishing:
1. Level Titles: Should not contain any words that are products, services, movies, etc. Basically anything that is copyrighted. EX: iPod Level, Halo Level, Super Mario Level.
2. Items within your Level: Do Not create any items that are copyrighted products or have copyrighted product logos. Ex: ipod, Xbox 360, Playstation 3. (Yes even a Playstation 3 console my warrant level moderation.)
3. Protect your Level: Before publishing your level, copy it and make a backup of it. Also change the backup level’s title before publishing the final work.

Yeah, this game sounds like so much fun now. I don't know the future of LBP, but upsetting the community of a community based game is not such a great start. Hopefully this issue will be resolved in a fashion that benefits all sides. As for now, my creations are on hold until a resolution has been reached. Oh well, back to Gears of War 2!
