While the movie adaptation of one of my favorite childhood books “Where the Wild Things Are” is scheduled for a theatrical release later this year, yesterday a two minute trailer was released by Warner Brothers Pictures. “Where the Wild Things Are” follows the story of a young boy who boy who is sent to bed without supper, who then imagines himself sailing away to a far away land. During his journey, he encounters a storm and finds himself shipwrecked on the island of the “wild things”.
After viewing the trailer below, I am now even more hyped for this movie’s release. All of the memorable characters from the story look amazing, and it seems the wild things were created by a combination of computer generated effects and actors wearing animatronic suits. By using this technique, the wild things look very realistic when interacting with the environment and other “real-life” actors. Combined with impressive action sequences and fantastic visual effects, it looks like Warner has done a fantastic job bringing this timeless fairytale to life.
Directed by Spike Jonze, the film stars Catherine Keener, Forest Whitaker, James Gandolfini, Max Records, Mark Ruffalo, Lauren Ambrose, and Catherine O'Hara. Get ready to let your imagination run wild when “Where the Wild Things Are” hits theaters October 16, 2009.
