To the FM listeners out there, have we heard our last O & A radio show? With their New York based radio station 92.3 K-Rock “allegedly” moving to a new format and name, 92.3 Amp, today might be the last time we hear Opie and Anthony on FM radio. While no official word has been announced of the format change, before leaving the station today, the duo spoke of their impending release and even played a “drop” announcing the new station format change from Classic Rock to non-stop Pop and Dance music.
In the last few years 92.3 has undergone several format changes. I first began listening to the station when I was younger and Howard Stern was king of FM. The station name was 92.3 K-Rock and featured their headline talk show and Classic Rock music. Years passed by and after Stern left for satellite radio, like many listeners, I also moved on from the station. I was once again re-united with 92.3 years later when it became 92.3 Free FM. The station format was composed primarily of talk shows of the “comedy” variety. It was like listening to your favorite radio morning show, all-day-long. The station featured shows including Opie and Anthony, JV and Elvis “The Dog House” Nick Dipaolo, and The Radio Chick. However, once the Don Imus debacle hit, the CBS owned station dumped all of their broadcasters except Opie and Anthony and moved back to their original Classic Rock format and name 92.3 K-Rock.
Now it seems yet another format change will occur for 92.3, and this time Opie and Anthony will not stay onboard. Fans of the show can always catch them on Sirius XM, but of course that requires a monthly charge and hardware installation. We hope the best for the radio show, but most likely I and many others will have to find a new morning show or take the satellite radio leap.
