Bad economy! What bad economy? Microsoft has officially announced that 2008 was their best year to date regarding their Xbox 360 division. From their reports, the Xbox 360 has sold 28 million units world wide and the ever-so-popular Xbox Live service has risen to 17 million subscribers. All signs are pointing to the September 2008 $199 price drop of the 360, as the root cause of Microsoft’s holiday season success.

“By cutting the price of the entry-level Xbox 360 in September to $199, Microsoft provided consumers an option that was less expensive than competing products from both Sony and Nintendo. Competing on price appears to have been a wise decision as Xbox 360 sales doubled the PlayStation 3 in November. “
“Microsoft also announced that the Xbox Live community rose to over 17 million and online spending using Xbox Live increased 84 percent year-over-year. Although the Xbox 360 was released roughly a year before the PlayStation 3, Microsoft did not fail to mention the Xbox 360 has sold 8 million more units than the PlayStation 3 according to a Reuters article.”
