If you happened to catch WWE’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view last night, you would have caught the latest TV spot for the upcoming Legends of WrestleMania game. If you’re new the title, Legends features many of your favorite past WWE/WWF superstars including Andre the Giant, Hulk Hogan, The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Jimmy Hart, Bobby Heenan, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels and Rowdy Rowdy Piper. The title promises to give players the ability to “relive, rewrite or redefine history” through classic or dream championship matches.
While the game looks great, the most notable and best kept secret regarding the title would be the inclusion of The Ultimate Warrior as a playable character. This may come to a surprise to many wrestling fans because of the intense history and “bad blood” between The Warrior and Vince McMahon, which was highlighted in the 2005 WWE release “The Rise and fall of the Ultimate Warrior” DVD. Although the Warrior was one of the biggest superstars during the late 80’s and early 90’s capturing every WWF title ( WWF Tag Team Championship, Intercontinental Championship, and the World Wrestling Federation Championship) his legendary character has been banned to appeared in any WWE video game since the 1994 arcade hit “WrestleFest”. That is……until now!
After reviewing the TV spot I can tell you The Ultimate Warrior character model, complete with WrestleMania VI attire, looks great. The developers did a great job capturing the “essence” of the Warrior and have included his signature running down the ramp entrance, shaking the ropes, face paint, arm bands, taunts and his finishing move the Warrior splash.
As a huge fan of WWE games, I sincerely hope this game delivers, and provides gamers a breath of fresh air to the aging SmackDown franchise. Look for Legends of WrestleMania is to hit store shelves March 24, 2009 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
*Update:
Below is the TV Spot featuring the Ultimate Warrior.
