Congratulations Time Warner Cable subscribers, you won’t be losing SpongeBob, South Park or The Daily Show in 2009. After a heated dispute over an increase of carriage fees, the two companies has settled on an “un-disclosed” agreement that has saved 19 Viacom channels from going dark in the new year. The proposed blackout would have affected the following channels: Comedy Central, Logo, Palladia, MTV, MTV 2, MTV Hits, MTV Jams, MTV Tr3s, Nickelodeon, Noggin, Nick 2, Nicktoons, Spike, The N, TV Land, VH1, VH1 Classic, VH1 Soul and CMT: Pure Country, in over 14 million homes nation-wide.
Whew, that was a close one! Now let’s see how smooth the transition from analog to digital television goes in February. I’m expecting society to breakdown when ma and pa can’t watch Jerry Springer. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
