Nothing like good ol’ competition to bring down the cost of merchandise! What has transpired into a bit-of-competition, major retailers Walmart and BestBuy, both feeling the effects of a dismal holiday season, are trying to lure iPhone seeking customers into their stores. What once used to be a $500 and $600 non 3G item (sorry early adopters) has fallen below the $299 Apple Store and AT&T asking prices. But how much lower? Find out after the break.
Starting today, Walmart has begun selling the (new and improved) Apple iPhone 3G in stores at the reduced price of $297 for the 16GB model and $197 for the 8GB model. This competitive pricing model, undercuts the Apple Store and AT&T by a whopping $2 (Hooray?). These prices are a far cry from the rumored 16GB $199 / 8GB $99 prices. Seriously, at $99 who wouldn’t want an iPhone?
In an attempt to one-two punch the new and existing competition, BestBuy’s 16GB iPhone prices have been reduced to $289, leaving the 8GB at $189. All prices include a 2 year contract agreement, so in the end, we still lose to AT&T.
