Is the U.S facing a Mario Kart Wii Shortage for the Holidays?

Posted by Kevin C. Monday, December 15, 2008

Today I was asked by a friend to find her a copy of Mario Kart for the Nintendo Wii, outside the realm of Ebay. She wanted to purchase it for a husband. (Good Wife!!) I told her no problem! This game was released months ago, that should be an easy task. It’s not like the Wii Fit, which depends on hardware manufacturing, there should be plenty of copies of Mario Kart in stores and online.

Well after a quick look, I was wrong……. very wrong. Not-In-Stock and Sold-Out across the board. With no major new games this fall season outside of Wii Music, it seems Mario Kart has become the “must-have” game for Christmas.

After checking the many major stores online (Walmart, Target, Gamestop, Amazon.com) I’ve yet to spot the elusive Mario Kart with the non-inflated price of $49.99. I’ve contacted a few stores, and while they are currently out of stock, they are expecting shipments of the game before Christmas. (At least that what the people I spoke with told me) I have found several copies of Mario Kart, but with an asking price of $59.99 – $89.99, you might want to wait until after the holidays.

I made a list (with links) below of the stores that are expecting Mario Kart before Christmas that are not bundling or charging a ridiculous price for it. As of this posting, they are out-of-stock. But for the parents that must have Mario Kart for Christmas I’ve made a second list, and as of this post they are available. If you really need Mario Kart in a hurry, you can also try Ebay.com.
