Who didn’t see this coming? Weeks before the NXE Dashboard and Gears of War 2 were scheduled to be released, pirated versions of them began circulating many torrent sites and was downloaded by thousands of people around the world. Not only were Microsoft’s biggest game of 2008 and the upcoming NXE being played well before the release date, but many gamers uploaded videos of themselves playing it to sites like YouTube, to show off the many features, storyline spoilers, and even the ending scenes.
In retaliation, (my theory) Microsoft is once again banning many modded Xbox 360s that login to Xbox Live.

Again this should be to no ones surprise, if you play a pirated game over Xbox Live on a modded 360, there is a chance Microsoft can catch you. And if caught, the penalty for such crime is a permanent ban from Xbox Live. It’s not your Gamertag that is banned, but the Xbox 360 console itself. I won’t be surprised of these banned 360s make it’s way to sites like Ebay and Craigslist, so used Xbox 360 buyers, BEWARE! You’ve been warned.

“I’ve gotten a few messages and seen some forum threads pop up on console bannings so I thought I’d post and let folks know what’s up. In our our continued effort to keep gameplay safe and secure for our community of more than 14 million members, Microsoft has taken action against a small percentage of Xbox 360 consoles that have been illegally modified in order to play pirated games.”
“You should know that modifying your Xbox 360 console is also a violation of the Xbox LIVE terms of use, will void your warranty and result in a ban from Xbox LIVE. The health of the video game business depends on customers paying for the genuine products and services they receive, both from manufacturers and the local companies that support them. We will continue to employ and bolster anti-piracy security measures to counter piracy in the gaming industry and improve security in the Xbox LIVE community.”
